History
1943 - Beaphar is founded, during the Second World War, by the man after whom the company is also named: Bernard Aa Phar(macie)In the early years it all starts with Bea 5 Minutes Pudding. Later on Beaphar started making chocolate sprinklers, especially meant for the army. But with the background of Grandfather Aa (miller by trade) and his passion for pets, he started to develop homeopathic products for dogs and cats.
Growth between 1950 and 1960
Development and production of medicines and care products for small pets.
Staupecid is Beaphar’s first veterinary product.
1963 - Second sales man is hired for the Dutch market.
1970 expansion politics
From the early seventies onwards, under the direction of J.Henk Aa (son of Bernard Aa) the company conducts a policy of expansion that is unrivalled.
1972 - Takeover of the “Geco” Combined Chemical Industry in Venlo.
1975 - Takeover of the Koninklijke Maatschappij Draisma van Valkenburg in Leeuwarden; manufacturer of cod-liver oil products. (Beaphar subsequently sold this company).
1978 - Takeover of Hondeline Soest; specialising in calcium and mineral preparations for dogs and cats.
1979 - Takeover of firm Kappelle from Deventer with its wide range of bird feeds.
Growth after 1979
Started own research and development department.
Started own laboratory.
1980 - Beaphar GmbH is set up.
1983 - Introduction of dog and flea collar.
1986 - Takeover of Rouppe van der Voort - known for the 404 bird sprays.
1989 - Takeover of Sabri Pet Supplies: dental care dog products under the name: Dog-A-Dent.
Meanwhile, Beaphar produces 13 different flea collars with a range of active ingredients and in almost any colour imaginable.
1993 - An important moment! After eight years of case assessment, flea drops are registered. Beaphar is one of the first companies who has this registration and is therefore unique.
By this time, Beaphar is manufacturing and supplying a complete range of insecticides, like flea shampoos, flea powders, sprays and drops.
1994 - Largest takeover in the history of the company to this point: the British firm Sherleys, a subsidiary of the Swiss chemical and pharmaceutical giant Ciba Geigy (Novartis).
1997 – Introduction of GMP. As a veterinary firm, Beaphar is obliged to comply with European EEC 91/412 guidelines. This guideline is known as “GMP” (Good Manufacturing Practice). Quality is the keyword at Beaphar.
1997 - Takeover of Bogena: greatest Dutch rival. Both companies are combined under the name Beaphar Nederland B.V.
1998 - Establishment of Beaphar Asia in Hong Kong.
1998 - Introduction of XtraVital Bird Feed.
2000 - XtraVital Super Premium Food For Rodents introduced.
2001 - Establishment of Beaphar Poland.
2001 - Establishment of Beaphar Eastern Europe.
2005 - Takeover of Aves Products; a company specialising in the production and sale of bird products, especially for Lorry.
2006 - Takeover of ICC France; previously a big competitor in the market of flea collars. A year after the takeover the name ICC is changed to Beaphar France.
2006 - Third generation Aa: Daan Aa appointed as CEO.
2007 - Takeover of Sinclair Ltd. (Gainsborough, United Kingdom). This is the biggest takeover of Beaphar’s history to date. Sinclair is a manufacturer of medicines for pets and produces a complete range of products for the aquatic market: fish food and medicines. Both sales teams (Sinclair and Beaphar UK) are merged and become the biggest sales force, in the pet market, for the UK.
2008 - Establishment of Beaphar Italy.
2008 – Establishment of Beaphar Bio: own sales office in Hungary.
2008: Establishment of Beaphar Norway.
2008- Establishment of Beaphar Hellas: own sales office in Greece.
2009- Beaphar UK is awarded as manufacturer of the year.
2010- Take over of Aristopet: Own sales office in Australia
