Often, dogs may not be keen to take a bath. The foam and sudden water jet seem to be the stuff of nightmares! They will, however, need to take a bath from time to time, and dogs with a silky coat will need to be bathed more frequently than those with rugged, wiry coats. When bathing your dog, always use a Beaphar or Sherley’s dog shampoo, which has been specially formulated for your dog’s sensitive skin. Shampoos used by you and your family are not alkali-free and will dry your dog’s skin. Wet the coat with lukewarm water and work up a good lather. Dogs hate having their heads washed, so leave it to last, taking care the foam does not get into the mouth, nose or eyes. Rinse the coat thoroughly with warm water and towel dry as quickly as possible. If your dog does not object, dry his coat with a hair dryer, taking care not to get it too close to the skin. Afterwards, give him a good brushing.
