what does a dog need?

Nearly everyone loves dogs, but before buying a dog, it is important to ask yourself the following:

• Will there usually be someone at home, during the day as well?
• What about going on holiday?
• Can you afford to keep a dog?

To take care of a dog, you will have to be ready for a great deal of expense: not just food, toys, bowls, a collar and lead, dog bed or basket, but animal boarding costs when you want to go on holiday and veterinarian fees to get your dog immunised against illness.

• Can you provide your dog with plenty of exercise?
• Does your family have room for a dog?
• Can you care for your dog’s coat every single time it is necessary?

The dog is a social animal that loves company. A dog actually needs you for him to be happy. Your dog will be your loyal supporter; if you respect your dog, he will respect you. If you take time to train him, you will do yourself and your dog a great service and he will be able to adapt to your lifestyle more easily.

Your dog needs space. A home with access to a garden is ideal. Just like you, your dog needs fresh, clean air and sunshine to stay healthy! Your dog will need his own place to sleep, although in practice a dog will always pick several places to sleep. He should always, however, have access to a spot where your family spends most of their time: preferably the living room.
